From today’s chart update, it is clear that Christmas is on its way. Also, massive apologies for missing two of these in a row.
98 – It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas by Michael Bublé
85 – Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens
79 – I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard
78 – Jealous by Labrinth
71 – Bang My Head by David Guetta ft. Sia
65 – Last Christmas by Wham
58 – Fairytale of New York by The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl
Of all the Christmas songs that come around each year, this is by far my favourite. I love the interplay between Kirsty MacColl and The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowen. It has a great rollicking melody and an uplifting yet catty tone. It is the perfect cynical Christmas song, and I absolutely love it.
86 – Don’t Give Up (On Love) by Blinkie
84 – Light It Up by Major Lazor ft. Nyla and Fuse ODG
This track is much more fun than Major Lazor’s other releases, Lean On and Bubble Butt. The trumpet on the chorus is a nice addition to the chorus, but the production is pretty normal for Major Lazor. Nyla and Fuse ODG are ok, but don’t really have much of a presence on the track. Overall, it is a fun song, but not one that I would rush to re-visit.
76 – Fine by Me by Chris Brown
This song is another to add to the roster of Chris Brown’s creepy sex jams. The auto-tune on his voice kills any mood, and the production really does not help. This track shows that he is stagnating artistically, and keeps reproducing the same song every time. I have never seen the appeal of him, and still don’t.
52 – Everglow by Coldplay
This electro-piano ballad is nothing new for Coldplay, and thus it feels slightly stale. Christ Martin has sounded better on other tracks like The Scientist and Yellow, here he just sounds tired. The production is laid back which does work with the tone of the song. It just feels a bit stiff, and not as good as Coldplay’s earlier stuff.
50 – When the Bassline Drops by Craig Daivd & Big Narstie
This song is not what I expected. It is quite dull actually. Craig David as a vocalist has never interested me and Big Narstie adds nothing to this track. The production is stiff and repetitive without ever changing. It is an incredibly forgettable track and on that I will not be revisiting.
